Preaching from John 8, Pastor Chip challenges graduating seniors to follow Christ.

Preaching from John 7, Dr. Ed Welch shows how Jesus Christ brings new life to our barren souls. Like a fresh stream of water, life in Christ renews us and then nourishes the lives of others that we influence with the gospel.

From John 6 we learn about the dangers of false discipleship, and the difference between those who follow Christ for their own self-interest, and those who have found essential life-change through Jesus Christ.

From chapter 6 of John's gospel we learn three essential truths about Christianity: 1) Jesus is the main subject of the Bible, 2) Eternal life is found in Christ alone, and 3) Christians are those who feed on the crucified One.

From John 12 we understand the infinite worth of Jesus Christ, our Savior, whose sacrificial death fills the world with the fragrance of life.

From John 5:30-47 we learn that one of the greatest barriers to saving faith is self-glory.  Like the Pharisees, our hearts are often so blinded by our love of self that we are unable to see how all of the scriptures testify that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, the very Son of God. 

From John 5:1-29 we learn that Jesus' radical claim to be equal with God leads to conflict with the religious establishment.

Preaching from John 8, Walter Strickland shows how Jesus describes the prism of the gospel thru the lens of freedom. There is no earthly antidote for the bondage of sin, but the true freedom we all hope for can only be found in submission to Jesus Christ.

Sunday we learned that Jesus' offer of salvation overcomes the barriers of race, gender, and morality, as he lovingly brings the gospel to the outsider. First, his offer of salvation is for everyone. Second, it is a free gift. Third, it alone is soul-satisfying and life-giving.

Preaching from John 3:22-30, Pastor Pete reminds us that there is no place for pride in the life of a follower of Jesus. Living the Christian life with others is a way to safeguard against pride. Following Pete's sermon we listened to a panel discussion about the importance of Community groups for growth in the gospel.

Preaching from John 3, Pastor Carey demonstrates that to understand God's love we must first understand his wrath.    

Preaching from John 3, Pastor Pete shows how Nicodemus represents many who express an interest in Christ yet never acknowledge their deep need for spiritual regeneration by the Spirit of God. Unless we are born again we cannot see the most important things, enter the most important kingdom, nor know the most important person.

Vince Oliveri shows how the Lord of the Feast from 2:1-11 is also the Lord of the Temple who overturns the tables of convenience in 2:13-22. Through his sacrificial death and resurrection Christ ultimately becomes the perfect temple, priest and sacrifice who reconciles us to the Father.  

Preaching from John 2:1-11 Pastor Pete shows how the miracle at the Wedding in Cana is actually story of Jesus' life. Jesus is the Lord of the feast and the Bridegroom. He alone makes festival joy possible.

Closing out the first chapter of the gospel of John, Pastor Pete shows how the call to follow Jesus is a call to follow the Son of God for the rest of our lives. 

Pastor Pete points to three essentials of the atonement found in John 1:29-34. Atonement for our sin is necessary, requires an innocent sacrifice, and is the gracious work of God on our behalf.

Preaching from Matthew 11:25-30, Pastor Pete challenges us to pursue spiritual habits or disciplines that will help us progress in our walk of faith.

Pastor Chip closes the Advent season preaching from John 1, and reminds us that God's love has come to us in the person of Jesus Christ. From eternity past God's redemptive plan would require the Son of God to give his life in order to rescue his people from their sin.
